Brewin’ – Poem About Coffee
Dark elixir for drowsiness,
Brewed before the dawn stretches and wakes.
Steam rising, birds rousing
Sitting on the porch waiting for the morning to break.
Magical, mystical potion that revives, vitalizes
On Monday morning when we’ve had
A little too much weekend to drink,
Unable to move beyond the temptation of sleep.
Oh, sweet beautiful caffeine,
Millions owe their ability to function to you.
Sleepy head jumps right out of bed
As long as they’ve got their morning brew.
Add a bit of sugar, creamer, spice
Or drink it black just as it comes.
Guaranteed to pull back your covers
And call you out to greet the rising sun.
Sippin’ in the silence of a sleepy morning,
While the rest of the world snores deep in sleep.
I’ve got a whole pot brewin’
Watchin’ a new day stumble down the city streets.
