Life in the Spirit of the Living God

The Future Follows the Present.

Frolic in the sun. Soak up the warm, healing rays of summer that leave you cozy like a hot towel taken out of the dryer after being washed by spring rains. But don’t ignore the inevitable. Don’t blind your eyes in folly to the fork in the road ahead that summons back the darkness and brings the cold winds of winter blowing.

Bask in present bliss, but don’t let it prevent you from planning for the future. The hedonist puts off the consequences of their pleasure for tomorrow; makes themselves a fool by announcing an outdoor party on a day with a 100% chance of rain.

But the time for righteousness is always right because it’s coupled with wisdom, allowing its bearer to taste the sweetness of life without it turning sour. God allows us to experience the joy and gift of the present while reminding us that the fruits we feast on rot when they’re divorced from life in the Spirit, doing the will of the living God.

  1. Hi Justin,

What a descriptive poem. I like this line especially.
“Don’t blind your eyes in folly to the fork in the road ahead that summons back the darkness and brings the cold winds of winter blowing.”
The phrase a fork in the road always evokes lots of imagery for me. Your last line is so true how God gives us things but also reminds us that they will rot as you say.
