Light of salvation,
send a torch down from Heaven;
guide us through the dark.

Finding Light in Darkness: Trusting God’s Guidance Through Life’s Challenges
Life often gives us unforeseen challenges that can leave us feeling lost and trapped in darkness of doubt or fear. During these times, it becomes essential to seek divine guidance. This is the concept I attempted to express in my haiku:
Light of salvation, send a torch down from Heaven; guide us through the dark.
This prayer poem reflects a profound plea for a way forward when you can’t see what’s in front of you. I wished to encompass these three truths:
- Only God can bring salvation and light.
- We are at His mercy, we are below Him, and He sends blessings down from Heaven.
- The Light of the World–Jesus–can lead and guide us through the darkness of our lives.
Embracing Faith During Trials and Times of Doubt and Hardship
Throughout history, people have turned to their faith to navigate and get through tough periods. The Bible offers numerous accounts of what this looks like. For instance, Psalm 23:4 (NIV) reassures us:
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
This verse emphasizes that, even in our most challenging moments, we are not alone; divine guidance is ever-present.
Or in the bible verse from Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
“The LORD is my light and my salvation– whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life– of whom shall I be afraid?”
Seeking Light in the Darkness
The metaphor of light dispelling darkness is prevalent in Christian teachings and is often used in the Bible as a symbol of revelation, guidance, or grace. Jesus proclaimed in John 8:12 (NIV):
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
This assurance invites believers to trust in the Light that God has given to lead them through life’s uncertainties and to trust that there’s a way forward even when times are bleak and dark.

Practical Steps to Strengthen Your Faith
- Prayer: Engage in regular conversations with God, expressing your fears and seeking guidance from Him.
- Scripture Reading: Immerse yourself in the Bible to find passages that offer comfort and direction in your life.
- Community Fellowship: Connect with fellow believers or a church family to share experiences and draw strength from collective faith.
- Reflective Writing: Compose poems or journal entries to express your feelings of doubt or pain. Then ask how God can help you. Listen for the guidance that God is trying to give you. Last, reflect on personal faith journey. Right now things seem impossible but think about all the times in the past when things looked bleak too. Remember how God came through for you then too.
Life Is Hard But God Has A Plan
Life’s challenges can obscure our path, making the journey seem daunting. However, by seeking and trusting in divine guidance, we can navigate these periods with hope and resilience. Embracing the light of faith ensures that, even in the darkest times, we are led toward clarity and peace.
Remember, as I’ve tried to convey in this Christian haiku about Jesus, the Light of salvation is ever-ready to guide us through the dark.
