Poem About the Joy of Being a Parent

The sound of your child's laughter
is the sweetest song your heart will ever hear.
Warding off any remembrance of disaster,
all concerns and worries disappear.

Like a spell of healing,
an incantation that breaches the ear,
it leaves you powerless to resist joyous feeling
and makes life's priorities crystal clear.

I wish I could bottle up that innocence
and prescribe its medicine to people of the earth.
For its power on the soul is limitless
and transcends any material worth.

Won't you laugh for me one more time?
Just one more smile, one more look in my eyes?
Oh, wind that shifted my heart's paradigm,
you're the greatest gift, the Divine's greatest surprise.
